Who we are
Rachel A Jordan PhD, LMHC
Counseling is a process whereby we work together to promote acceptance and change. As a professional in the field for 20 years I have experience working with couples and individuals facing an array of mental health issues. At some point, we all need help navigating life issues such as relationship struggles, grief and loss, parenting stress, anxiety, workplace challenges, trauma, and self-esteem.
I would describe my therapeutic approach as integrative. I meet people where they are and try to gain insight and understanding into their worldview. Person-centered approach is primary, focusing on empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard. Motivational interviewing and strength-based theory take center stage. Cognitive-behavioral theory is integrated as appropriate to help facilitate greater understanding and insight regarding challenges and planning for change. Genuineness is important to me. Please do not expect silence or lack of engagement. I will validate thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, but also challenge incongruencies to help facilitate self-awareness.
I am comfortable in all communication platforms, including in-person sessions, texts, video chat, phone calls. I have experience working with clients across all mediums. I look forward to taking the journey with you.

Life has the potential of leading us in many different directions, whether this is toward the crossroad of grief and loss, relationship challenges, interpersonal challenges, questions of purpose and/or self-worth, mental health challenges, and beyond. Sometimes, individuals may benefit from simply being listened to by another individual. At its very core, counseling is the art of listening and drawing attention to themes and observations. In life, we may hit barriers, as a counselor, I am committed to assisting individuals with overcoming these barriers.
I am an MHC and a School-Based Prevention Counselor in New York State. I have experience in working with adolescents, teens, and adults. My approach to counseling is integrative, collaborative, person-centered, and meets individuals where they are. I approach emotional concerns with respect, compassion, and integration of treatment perspectives. A person-centered approach means meeting individuals with empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness. Through active listening and observation, I focus on drawing out the client's existing strengths, drawing attention to themes, challenging inconsistencies, and focusing on areas in which individuals would like to grow.
I look forward to meeting and working with you.
